Sending accessible emails

It may not seem like it, but there are also accessibility concerns for emails! Many of the recommendations I made for social media accessibility apply to email as well.

Check your language

Ensure that you’ve proofread your email to ensure you’re using the most understandable and inclusive language possible. Making an email only as long as it needs to be and using minimally-complicated language will help whoever you’re sending it to.

Check your HTML

If your email has more than just text in it, it’s probably using HTML to render those non-text elements. And HTML, whether it’s on its own web page or delivered in an email, should be checked for accessibility with a validation tool of some kind.

Check your images

Just like for social media posts, we should add alternative text image descriptions and ensure that our images have proper contrast between their elements, especially if they’re images of text.
